Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Oral & Maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) is a dental and surgical speciality concern with the surgical aspects of the oral cavity,face and the jaws. From its austere beginnings as a ‘tooth puller’ Subject, this speciality has over the last 150 years,advanced immensely,in its scope, expertise and technical proficiency to establish itself as a true surgical speciality of oro-facial region.
The department of oral & Maxillofacial surgery at Rajas Dental College is equipped to cater 100 patient cases daily.
The undergraduate and postgraduate divisions are housed in the 1st floor of the instituition,and are served by separate well equipped sterilisation centre.

Highlights

  • The undergraduate training schedule aims to make the student proficient in minor surgical procedures like tooth extraction,biopsy,pre-prosthetic surgeries,infection management etc.training is also given in emergency care,minor trauma management and dental management of medically compromised patients
  • The postgraduate clinic,where 6 students can work simultaneously is equipped with all necessary equipment and instruments,as well as an exclusive sterilisation wing.The teaching schedule is designed to make the PG student proficient in minor and major surgeries of facial region as well as general emergency and in – hospital patient management
  • The in – patient division,the major surgery theatre,recovery room and intensive care units are housed in the Rajas Dental College located in the same campus. Hospital has 35 patient beds exclusively dedicated to the department.The theatre section is fully functional with state of the art equipments and instruments,trained assisting staff and a recovery room.
  • The service offers state of the art treatment in craniofacial trauma,cleft and major surgeries of the facial regions well as general emergency and in hospital patient management.
  • We are collaborated with the prestigious Regional Cancer Centre(RCC) Thiruvananthapuram as well as Boothapandi general hospital.
  • We aim at providing quality holistic care that is cost effective to the common man in the form of primary preventive and curative services.

  • Cent percent result for MDS students
  • Dr Kala Bagavathy secured the highest mark in the university exam held at May 2019
  • Best paper award in TN-AOMSI 2012 held at Madurai by Dr T K Divakar
  • Second prize in E-poster at 43rd Annual conference of AOMSI and 1st Indo-Japan OMS conference held at Chennai by Dr Kala Bagavathy.

UG Clinic

Our UG clinic is very spacious with enough chairs to work with for students.
Reception has a spacious waiting hall for patients adorned with patient education posters and pamplets.
A museum showing all the forceps and skull and mandible useful for UG students.

Operation Theatre

There is a dedicated Operation Theatre complex built satisfying all the latest requirements. Hospital has 35 patient beds exclusively dedicated to the department. The theatre section is fully functional with state of the artequipments and instruments, trained assisting staff and a recovery room.

  • Government approved laminar flow inside Operation Theatre room
  • Anesthesia workstation with ventilator support
  • Operating LED light with camera to enable direct projection of the live surgery to audience with audio support
  • ICU with 2 beds with central oxygen connection and central suction
  • Postoperative room with 2 beds
